RSC page on the current production

For your next blog-related homework task, you will need to go through the RSC page on the current touring production, and make a detailed comment on it. Perhaps find a particular section that you think is interesting, and let us know what it is that draws you to it. Alternatively, comment on the site as a whole, saying how it has helped you to prepare for the play.

Reading it carefully will certainly add to your enjoyment of the trip on the 28th.

Hello
I have decided to do approaching the language as I do not understand half of the words in Romeo and Juliet. The section approaching the language was certainly very descriptive as it took up several paragraphs explaning the complecated imagery, antithesis(?) and the next steps to understanding. I think I belive the person who made the comment as he has already been through what we are going through so he knows what its like. The site is pretty good and speaks with a lot of description on lots of different subjects relating to Romeo and Juliet.

Overall i found this website very interesting as most of the pages were written from people involved in the play's point of view. I looked at the section about the storyline and themes of Romeo and Juliet, because it is interesting to see how other people interpret the plot. I found the content useful and to the point but in some places, like rory said, it took a long time to explain certain ideas. I found the sub-heading useful as they clearly outlined the topic of each paragraph and if you were quickly skimming through they would be very useful. I found the section on ying and yang especially interesting as that concept discussed had not occurred to me.

I particularly liked the approaching the language section. I thought it was very interesting to hear the actors' thoughts about the language and how they studied the play. This area also highlighted some imagery that I hadn't really noticed that much when we read the play in class. I liked the idea of Shakespeare puting the human heart being at the centre of the universe and it isn't something we have talked about in class. Similarly, the section on the Queen Mab speech was useful because I find that part of the play confusing and quite strange.

Hi
I found the approaching the language section on the RSC website very helpful and interesting. The section was also very good as it explained the imagery very well as I did not understand some parts of the play so this really helped. Also like Lucy I found the section on Queen Mab very helpful as I find this part of the play quite difficult to understand. I also enjoyed hearing about the actors and directors thoughts about the speech and directions of the play.

The RSC website was very interesting and it covered a wide range of topics concerning Romeo and Juliet. I particularly enjoyed the section on themes. It firstly gave a list of the themes covered and then it continued to give quotations from the play. I think this is very interesting and could be very helpful as well.
Overall, the website has lots of information about the play and by reading it you begin to get a better understanding of the play.

in general i found the site very interesting and useful. in particular though i found the part on approaching language section the most interesting as i liked how they addressed it to teenagers so it made it more personal and i really think the information helped and this means i can improve my understanding of the play in class and when we go see the play. i also agree with lucy and emma on the queen mab section and it was good to learn something new that we havent covered in class.

I found the section on casting very interesting because it helps you to get an overall impression of all the characters and their personalities. The sections on approaching the language and Queen Mab are also very helpful and they opened my eyes to some of the very interesting imagery that I had not picked up on during class. The section on the main themes of the play also had themes that I had not thought about and I am sure will increase my enjoyment of the performance on Tuesday. Overall, I thought the website had a lot of information and was well suited for people of our age.

Overall I found this website interesting and made me look forward to seeing Romeo and Juliet even more. I was particularly interested by the section on the Queen Mab speech because we have not had time to go over it too much in class. This section gave me a more sound knowledge on the speech made by Mercutio. I also thoroughly enjoyed hearing from the actors and actresses themselves Reading information on the up and coming current production was fun. Looking forward to seeing the show on wednesday : )

Hi
I found the modern layout to the site very attractive however at some points it was difficult to navigate through the site especially with the scroll bar. The part of the site I enjoyed most was the section on casting.I thought that having someone elses views on the characters was very interesting.
Thanks

Hey everyone.
I read the section called "the casting game". The detailed descriptions of the characters were very interesting while still being short enough for me not to get bored. Also it was good to hear from the person in charge of casting because she would have known exactly what to look for in an actor. I also found the part at the end very interesting which had the activities that you could try yourself to see what casting directors go through when choosing actors. Overall the website was useful and very easy to navigate around but the scroll arrows really annoyed me! But otherwise, the website was really good.
Cheerio. :]

Hi,
I thought that the website was good and very infomative. I also felt that it was hard to navigate however the 'Approaching the Language' Just about made up for it. I wan't too sure about The Charnel House Section was all about, but as you read on it is soon explained. I would recommend the casting game section as it gives good descriptions of the role which the actor plays.

Hey,
Approaching the language section is what I found the most useful. It is someone elses interpretation of the play and as I find the language difficult to understand, in some parts, this has certainly added to my understanding. I also thought the casting game was great, having someone elses views on the characters. Overall, I thought the website had many interesting comments and good descriptions on the different sections.

I liked the approaching the language section in particular because it helped clarify some of the imagery, which gave me a better understanding of the play. I also found the section on Queen Mab really interesting and helpful, as I hadn’t quite understood it in class. The website also highlighted some interesting themes like the light and dark imagery and premonition which I did not notice while reading the play. Overall I thought that the website was very constructive and descriptive and I am looking forward to seeing the play on Tuesday.

Hi
I found the website really intresting. I particuarly liked how it was aimed at a younger catagory, and it was alot easier to understand, and like Charlotte, I feel that it will help my understanding of the play. I found the home page intresting, as it asked the reader questions, and i found that it was a good way to introduce the wesbsite to our age group. I liked the casting game section, as it gave more information on the characters, and could give you more additional background knowledge before watching the play.

I think the approaching the language section was very useful as Shakespearean language is not used nowadays so young people reading may struggle understanding the text, so this is very useful.

the approaching the language sectin was useful as i do not understand shakespearean langage

i too approached the language section as shakespeares language is very particular and the language sectin really helped me understand it more. i tried some of the activities which was good because you can see what the casting directors look for in an actor as the characters are so important especially in such a play like romeo and juliet.
also, the sub headings at the top of every paragraph is very useful for skimming thorugh. overall the website was really good :) thalia

hi

Overall i found this website interesting and easy to navigate through. I particularly found the casting game helpful due to its simple descriptions of the characters, and it also gave a good insight into the work that goes on behind the scenes. I also found the "approaching the language" section very helpful due to its detailed paragraphs on imagery and antithesis. The personal account from Matthew Rhys was also of benefit as it had things i could relate to. Overall the website has helped me in my understanding of Romeo and Juliet and hopefully for the production on Tuesday.
